Privacy policy
The Orange Door is committed to safeguarding the privacy of your information.
The Orange Door will only collect, use and disclose your information (including personal and health information) in line with relevant laws, including the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic), the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 (Vic), the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 (Vic) and the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 (Vic).
To do our job, The Orange Door needs relevant information about clients and other people.
When working with a client, we will explain why we need information and what it will be used for. We might also need to find out more from other places.
For example, we might seek information from the police about a person using violence, to help us identify if there is a serious risk. The more relevant information that is available, the better service The Orange Door can provide.
Sometimes, a worker at The Orange Door will need to talk to a worker from a different organisation about a client. This will only be done to improve the service provided.
Where a client has agreed to be referred from The Orange Door to a community service, The Orange Door will share relevant information to help that service do its job. This will mean that clients won't have to re-tell their story.
The Orange Door stores information securely and takes all reasonable steps to safeguard information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modifications or disclosures.
Wherever appropriate, safe and reasonable to do so, we will seek a client's views on how and when their information is used.
You may ask us to deal with your information in a particular way, and we will do what we can to meet your request.
There are times when The Orange Door will be legally required to use your information in a particular way – for example, where there is a serious risk to a person’s safety.
You have the right to request access to your information that is held by The Orange Door. We can usually provide this, unless it would affect someone else’s privacy or safety.
If you identify information that is incorrect, you may request for it to be corrected.
If you have any privacy queries or complaints, contact The Orange Door in your area and ask for the Manager or email privacy@familysafety.vic.gov.au.
